Holiday DIY: Candy Cane Reindeer

My finished product. I shared these with coworkers, friends, and family during the 2012 holiday season.
One of my favorite birthday memories as a child was when my Mother would make me candy cane reindeer to take to school and share with my classmates to celebrate my birthday. Most kids would bring in doughnuts or cake but because I was born in December, I liked a way that I could not only celebrate my birthday but the holiday season.

This DIY is fairly simple although you will need to be careful with the hot glue and have plenty of patience will the assembly of all the odds and ends.

What you will need:
-Candy Canes (I use classic as well as canes that have red and green stripes)
-Ribbon in the colors of your choice
-Sparkly gold pipe cleaners
-Small googly eyes
-Small red pom pom puffs
-Hot glue gun and mini glue sticks

-A covered work space
-A basket to carry your final product in

How you do it:
Use your hot glue gun to glue the googly eyes and pom pom puffs on your candy cane. Clip the pipe cleaners into 4 inch segments and bend them back and forth in a sort of chevron stripe pattern. Then glue them down on the top of the candy cane. The finishing touch is to tie a ribbon as a bow tie around the stem of the candy cane. Of course you can take as many creative liberties as you want in this project and change whatever you would like to suit your own personal tastes. I think these are fun to share with friends, use as ornaments, and decorate presents with. They're such a cute way to share the holiday spirit. Happy Holidays!
