Neiman Marcus for Target.

When Neiman Marcus for Target dropped in early December 2012, collaborators were probably assuming that shoppers far and wide would snatch up their coveted pieces with the fervor that the famed Missoni for Target shoppers did in 2011. Not the case. It didn't take more than a few moments stroll through the Neiman Marcus "shop" inside my local Target to see that the collaboration was a complete and total flop. With the demand for high end designer pieces at an affordable price seeming greater than ever, why did the collection yield such dismal monetary success?

Marc Jacobs leather pouch in Rose Gold. $20. I'll take it!
The answer is simple. The average American is not looking to spend 80-100+ dollars on unrecognizable luxury goods. Yes, names like Marc Jacobs and Oscar de la Renta mean something to some people. But shoppers are looking for useful goods that justify spending the extra proverbial penny on. Dog bowls, leashes, collars, cookie cutters, fraying scarves, skateboards and children's clothing that rings in at over 100 dollars wasn't what the collective needed to be focusing on even if it does boast the designer tag. With that said, Target (in my area at least) is currently full of Neiman Marcus for Target merchandise that is at upwards of 70% off.

I picked up a Marc Jacobs leather pouch that was originally being sold for $69.99 for $20.00. I saw this as a worthwhile purchase as I received an iPad mini for Christmas and this pouch is the perfect size to tuck my iPad mini away into when I'm on the go. Also, as it is real leather and sports Marc Jacob's logo (rather than Marc Jacob's for Target) in my opinion it was well worth a simple $20. While Neiman Marcus for Target may have been a terrible flop and the merchandise for the most part made little to no sense, if there was something you were eye balling from the overpriced collection, now would be the time to check your local Target for discounted merchandise. Happy shopping!
