This is a really simple and fun DIY for the nail polish lover.
My
friends were cleaning out their kitchen and gave me a vintage wooden
spice rack. I took it home and truth be told, it spent a few months in
the back of my car before I was hit with some inspiration. I decided to
paint the spice rack and use it to store nail polish!
What you need:
- Spice Rack of your choice (if you're purchasing one from the store, make sure to bring a few nail polishes with you to be sure that your polishes are not too big for the spice rack)
- Sand paper
- Paint of your choice (I used acrylic)
- Paint Brushes (sizes small and medium)
- Cardboard or newspaper
- Set up your workspace (I used cardboard covered with newspaper)
- Sand down your spice rack if it is not sanded already
- Paint 3 coats of a base color (waiting 10 minutes between each application.)
- Let dry overnight
- Apply designs/details in colors of your choice (I used sponges to add robins egg blue, light green, and lime green to my antique white base coat)
- Let dry overnight one more time
- Hang your finished product on the wall and add your polishes (the nail polishes will not be too heavy. This spice rack has been hanging on the wall in my bathroom for 6 months now!)
The best thing about this way to store nail polish is that I can see what shades I have without having to dig through them. Also, I love nail polishes so it makes me smile a little to see some of my favorite nail colors whenever I'm getting ready. My spice rack doesn't hold all of the nail polishes that I own, so I store the ones that are in season in my rack and tuck the rest away under my sink in a Tupperware storage container.
Let me know what you think of my DIY! Happy painting and polishing!
